20 - SIP Fixings & Corrosion Zones

The Formance SIP system is CodeMark certified for B2 Durability of the New Zealand Building Code. This includes the fixings that form part of the assembly.

When the fixings are specified and installed as set out in the Formance guides, their durability is already established. A Building Consent Authority accepts the certificate as evidence of Building Code compliance, used within its stated limitations.

The system uses various fixings, such as:

  • Formance SIP screw,
  • Panel perimeter nails
  • Timber spline-spline framing nails.
  • Bracing & lintel straps

All fixings are situated within the closed environment of the build-up, behind the cladding and the building underlay.

Floor panel undersides

On the underside of a floor panel in a subfloor situation, the 60 x 2.8mm galvanised nails that fix the spline to the skin are covered by the stick-on underlay running over the join. This keeps the spline area weathertight.

The corrosion result is the same either way. A subfloor is generally considered a sheltered location, depending on the vent volume, and galvanised is acceptable in a sheltered Environment in every zone, so the nails comply whether covered or not.
