1. Oriented Strand Board (OSB): The Structural Skin
Each Formance SIP panel is faced on both sides with high-grade oriented strand board (OSB). This engineered wood product provides the structural strength of the system, enabling panels to bear heavy loads while remaining dimensionally stable. It’s durable, consistent, and key to the monolithic strength of the SIP system.

 

2. Expanded Polystyrene (EPS) Insulation: The Thermal Core
Sandwiched between the OSB layers is rigid expanded polystyrene (EPS) foam insulation, precision-laminated under pressure. This insulation core is what gives SIPs their superior thermal performance and energy efficiency.

Formance offers two EPS insulation options:

  • Standard White EPS Insulation – Delivers reliable insulation performance at a cost-effective price point.

  • Graphite-Enhanced EPS Insulation – Infused with graphite particles that reflect radiant heat, providing higher R-values and increased energy efficiency per thickness. Ideal for Passive House projects and clients seeking maximum thermal performance.

 

3. Polyurethane Adhesive: Bonding Strength
The OSB and EPS layers are bonded using a two-part polyurethane adhesive under strict quality control conditions. Once cured, the adhesive creates an unbreakable bond, giving the panel its structural integrity. This eliminates the need for mechanical fasteners and ensures a long-lasting, high-strength connection.
